Or how I went from hunting Civil Rights Landmarks to State Capitols.

So, I started this trip with the best of intentions, to view Civil Rights Landmarks and then, somewhere along the line it switched. I was all about it through Georgia and into SC… Charleston, but then I got upstate and many of the places were closed or had long been ignored… or hadn’t yet been restored… and Columbia is a state capital.

But then I found myself sandwiched between Anapolis, MD & Dover, DE; headed for Charleston, West “By God” Virginia… so… I will pick up 8 state capitals on this trip complete with matching Governor’s Mansions.

Look for a page on this website dedicated to State Capitols with matching Executive Residences/Governor’s Mansions/Government Buildings – whatever that state calls them. Some of them are right on the grounds with the capitol; at least one is 8 miles away.

Some State Capitols have monuments to the Confederacy on them. Some have Civil Rights Memorials of their own. So, I guess the 2 goals are not so different.
